So what really is Tantra?
There are so many answers to the question, "What is Tantra?" Books
have been written, videos made, poetry scribed and stories told. We
call it total approach to a spiritual life using sacred sex as the path to
Supreme Bliss.
Tantra says "Yes" to everything that you are. There are many many
paths to the Creator. It resonates with my being that the path for me is
one of total acceptance. Tantra is about freedom, freedom to choose.
You will never find two Tantrikas alike, except for their passion for
life.

Tantra Does Freedom, Not Renunciation

Some religions emphasize renunciation of something. It might be
pork, beef, sex, or "impure" thoughts, etc. Once humans get into the
picture as in religion, the issues of control and power arise. There is
no middle person or structure in Tantra. You are an aspect of God and
have direct communication, should you choose.
Freedom, choice and self love. Those are the fundamental elements of
a Tantric path. Needless to say, many of us have been poorly prepared
for total freedom. Rarely have we been taught to truly listen to our
inner guidance, our feelings. Think for a moment about the way you
were raised and the many years you have given to therapy or personal
growth workshops so that you can listen to that voice from deep
within.

What's Your Opinion Of Yourself?

I often ask my clients how they feel about themselves. Although the
specifics vary, there is often a powerful self critical voice which says I
don't really like myself very well. I find that we are often more able to
describe what we don't like about ourselves that what we do like.
If we are a drop of water in the ocean of God, i.e. the universe, how
can we be so self loathing? Does not the love of God begin with the
love of self? I am a reflection of you, just as you are a reflection of God,
just as you are a reflection of me. The divine energy flows through out
the universe. It is accessible to all of us.

God Did Fine With You So Love Yourself

Because you are the child of God, you are perfect. You are totally
perfect. There are no conditions on your divinity. Your hair is divine,
your nose, your figure, your intelligence, your sex. The only way you'd
think otherwise is if you bought into somebody else's view about how
you should look or be or act.
Don't buy other's stories. Just accept yourself.
Loving and honoring your complete being and others is what Tantra
teaches. Our society has so easily accepted and taught that sexuality is
dirty and less desired. We have been given, through divine design, the
ability to feel ecstatic pleasure. How can sex be less holy than anything
else one feels and does?

Tools For Personal Exploration

Total acceptance of self is total acceptance and love of every aspect of
your self, your divine self. The Tantric tools and techniques of
meditation and personal exploration promote this kind of self love.
There is an old adage that is very true: "You must love yourself in order
to love another." I would go so far to say that the reverse is just as true.
Make a list of the qualities and characteristics you like or love about
yourself. Review this list daily and give yourself a pat on the back. If you
find you keep thinking of the qualities you do not like about yourself,
create a list of those qualities reversed. Example: if you do not like
your selfishness, write, I am a generous and giving woman (man). If
you do not like your neck, write, my neck is lovely. Review this revised
list at least 15 times a day. Say it out loud, rewrite the list and simply
read the list. You will be learning to use your thoughts to change the
way you feel. The power of your thoughts is the most powerful force in
the universe. Remember who you are, you wonderful one.
