surrendering. How much you let go determines how high you fly.

Surrendering is one of those new age terms bandied about profusely

these days. Too bad it's so maligned and misunderstood, especially by

those who don't believe in turning the other cheek. No, surrender

doesn't mean to give in, give up, or give away your power. It doesn't

mean to defer, acquiesce, or knuckle under to another's whim or

preference. And it certainly doesn't mean to let someone stronger win.

More than anything, surrender means to allow things to happen

without your continual interference. It's about learning to go with the

flow and let things unfold naturally without your obsessive

micromanagement. It's about getting out of your own way.

Yet, surrender doesn't mean discarding all of your beliefs, values, and

opinions. The clearer your identity and the more secure you are in who

you are, the more easily you'll be able to surrender. Desiring,

intending, and creating are vital elements in having a joyful life. We're

simply talking about not fighting how your creations play out.

Here's what Chapter 15, Good Sex Is Letting Go, of our ebook

about this: "Good sex is about letting go, surrendering to the moment,

to your partner and to yourself. People who have a hard time letting go

of control, or who are critical of themselves and have low self-esteem,

Let's take an example to demonstrate how this works. Let's say you

want more oral sex. You surf the web and try to experiment with your

lover. Unfortunately, your partner isn't so willing walk on your wild

side.

- Do you retreat temporarily, get devious, and spring some well-placed

- Do you give in and forget all about the sucking scenarios that have

No, these don't quality as surrendering. On the contrary, surrender

means accepting your lover's resistance but not giving up on what you

you want. If you're mad because you don't get to enjoy giving or

receiving the kind of mouth action you're craving, you're not

surrendering. Remember, you chose this partner and part of that is

accepting the whole package. If you can't accept your beloved's truth

without blame, then you haven't surrendered to your own decision.

How many unsatisfied lovers never confront their own desires honestly

and end up with a sexless relationship that includes secretive porn

videos, sex shows, or even an outside partner? We'd rather you look at

yourself, accept what you want, and take action openly.

Surrender here means negotiating for what you want, seeing how far

your honey will go now, and living with that. By making the best of the

kind of loveplay you agree on in the present moment, you might well

get what you want step by step. One thing is sure, fighting the current

condition will pretty well guarantee that you'll never get what you want.

Micromanagers Don't Do Well With Surrendering

Surrendering is all about believing in yourself and your power. It's

based on knowing you can have what you want and that you deserve it.

In other words, it's about approaching life with a positive Tantric

Attitude. That includes being in the present moment, trusting yourself,

accepting your feelings, and indulging in all the pleasure you can

muster.

A major element in surrender is accepting what's happening in the

now. As "Intimacy" explains: "It is important to stay in present time to

be fully sexual. Being in present time means taking the maximum

amount of pleasure and enjoyment out of what you're experiencing in

the moment.

Surrender might look like letting your sweetheart choose how to make

love to you. You might spend the whole evening only receiving, or

spend the whole time giving the lightest of sensual massages. Or if

you're really lucky and really brave, you might get blindfolded, tied up,

and titillated for hours, hovering on the precipice of that glorious

explosion that's just out of reach.

You can't explore and enjoy these kinds of scenarios if you're so

insecure that you have to control everything that happens. If have to

manage every little interaction, you won't enjoy letting another lead. If

you're ruled by fear, surrendering won't be comfortable. If your natural

tendency is to say no, surrendering just won't come easy.

When you resist what's happening outside, you create internal

tension. Pulling away, denying, or fighting what you're feeling is a

surefire way to stop the flow of orgasmic energy that can catapult you

to the higher reaches of ecstasy. Surrendering to spiritual sex requires

that you're fully present, fully open to what your senses report, and

fully welcoming the feelings you experience.

Playing on the edge of your comfort zone can be a great exercise in

personal growth, confronting your demons and taking a stand for what

you really want. An all-too-common example of how not surrendering

gets in the way is men's performance anxiety over their erections.

Chapter 15 of "Intimacy" tells this story about that:

"Aaron came in for counseling because he was having trouble

maintaining his erection. With each episode of 'failure,' Aaron became

more anxious and more focused on what his penis was doing and not

doing. After learning some relaxation exercises and some new coping

skills, Aaron was able to leave much of the stress and anxiety of his

day outside the bedroom. In addition, Aaron began to more easily

receive sexual attention from Vicki, which was very hard for him to do

in the past. To his surprise, Aaron found a whole new source of

erections and sexual satisfaction by being in a relaxed receiving,

feeling, present-time mode."
