you know that one strong advantage of Tantric practice is sexual
healing. Some people use the term healing to mean digging into the
past to dredge out and reconcile old negative experiences. Some use
healing to mean curing a disease.
In Tantra, healing means returning to your natural state of health,
vibrancy, and joy. Sexual healing comes about by routinely getting
turned on, opening your inner channels to the robust flow of sexual
energy, and thereby clearing out the blockages that we all tend to
accumulate in the modern world.
To reach the exalted states of spiritual bliss, we need to cleanse and
clear the congestion in our sexual circuits. Some sexologists call this
condition "tumescence." Tumescence is really a medical term that
means swollen and enlarged when a part of the body fills with blood,
especially when it's ready for sexual activity.
If you're thinking of vajra (Tantric for penis) getting erect, you've
zoomed in on a key example. But yonis (Tantric for vulva and vagina)
get tumesced, too.
But there's a Tantric meaning to tumescence as well.

There's More To Tumescence Than Getting Wet Or Hard

Tumescence also means the emotional condition that results when you
don't get enough sex. Because all that unreleased sexual energy is
captive inside, you get turned on more readily and your sex organs can
get excited more easily. You feel spontaneous urges which you might
choose to suppress as your mind fills with sudden fantasies.
Tumescence is like pressure building inside your body, mind, and
spirit. There's all this energy percolating causing lots of activity. If you
try to hold back the flood, you'll find yourself at war with yourself
inside. If you succumb, you may not choose appropriate means of
releasing the pent-up forces.
Either way, this isn't very good for you. You may find yourself overly
cranky, grouchy, and irritable. Your body may feel off kilter and
uncomfortable in various ways. You may seem hypersensitive to others
who know you.
Medical doctors at the turn of the previous century used this
understanding to treat their women patients who were suffering from
what they then called "hysteria." That was just a fancy name for
tumescence as we've described it here. What was the accepted
medical treatment for this common ailment?
At first, physicians got their female patients off with their hands.
Really, seriously. We're not joking. Sorry we don't have room here for
the rest of the story. We're afraid you'll have to wait until our next
major issue to learn what to do about tumescence. And it's not seeing
your local general practitioner.
